Hi. I’m Natalia Silva, a Brazilian journalist and writer.

I hold a master’s degree from the Columbia Journalism School, and I’ve been working in audio journalism since 2019. I served as executive editor at Rádio Novelo, where I originally joined as a producer for Rádio Novelo Apresenta — a weekly narrative show similar in style to This American Life.
If you want more details about my career, you can find it on my LinkedIn.
If you want to reach out to me, here’s my contact info.
Most of my work is in Portuguese, but here are a few clips of pieces I produced in English during graduate school.
The other abortion pill
When Roe v. Wade was overturned and anti-abortion activists in the U.S. turned their attention to abortion pills, I felt a strong sense of déjà vu. Their tactics echoed a story I once reported back home. In the 1980s, Brazilian women were the ones who revealed to the world what would become the first widely used abortion pill — misoprostol. Today, however, they are among those who cannot access it, putting their lives at risk.
In this 30-minute episode, I talk to specialists from both Brazil and the United States about the parallels between these experiences — and what each country can learn from the other.
Don’t do it. Do it.
In this short story, I talk to a 12-year-old hockey player who’s preparing for a big change in his life. Soon, he’ll be allowed to make body checks—something that feels both thrilling and a little scary.
Message in a bottle
The backstory of the Golden Record — a message sent into the stars aboard the Voyager spacecraft — and the new attempt to correct the shortcomings of the original version.
Burning Hands
In this experimental piece, I attempt to translate the physical, lived experience of racism into sound.
